Coasting Through Quebec City & Charlevoix with ClubMed

By: J5Travel

May 20, 2022

If you follow us on social media, a few weeks ago you may have seen some posts from Kendall while she was in Canada. Kendall had the wonderful opportunity to visit the new ClubMed Quebec Charlevoix resort that recently opened towards the end of 2021. She of course opted to extend for a few days in Quebec City, as it has often been voted the most charming city in North America. So Kendall is sharing all things ClubMed Charlevoix and all things Quebec City, including two Virtuoso properties.

1. ClubMed Quebec-Charlevoix

Many travelers are familiar with the name "ClubMed," which is not surprising considering they basically originated the all-inclusive resort model. However, the brand has come a long way from how most people probably remember them. Between remodels, new builds, and the addition of their Exclusive Collection properties, the quality of facilities and services makes them a fierce competitor in the all-inclusive resort category. ClubMed Quebec-Charlevoix is North America’s first and only all-inclusive ski resort, and is located about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Quebec City. It is situated on the St. Lawrence River and is surrounded by mountains full of hiking and biking trails. The year-round activities are truly endless here.

2. Exclusive Collection for ClubMed

In staying true to our focus of luxury travel, the Exclusive Collection resorts and spaces for ClubMed have to be highlighted. This is the brand’s luxury offering that consists of separate areas of the resorts that offer better views, larger accommodations, dedicated concierges, private lounges, private check-in, and even private jacuzzis. Guests staying in Exclusive Collection spaces also have access to priority dining and activity reservations. There are currently 19 ClubMed resorts across the world that are either full Exclusive Collection resorts, or have Exclusive Collection spaces. These offer a complete experience with that added touch of luxury - perfect for those who want the all-inclusive experience, but still want to feel pampered on their vacation.

3. Food of Quebec (above and below)

I knew going to Quebec City would mean that I would be met with classic French dishes, but I was not quite prepared to be as impressed as I actually was. Firstly, the food at ClubMed was easily the best I have had at an all-inclusive. Their buffet was full of freshly prepared dishes, and their specialty restaurant, Le Chalet, served farm-to-table style food with ingredients sourced from the Charlevoix region. I continued to be impressed as I continued onto Quebec City where I had escargot, beef and salmon tartare, and creme brulee a few too many times. The food scene here is no joke, and I was even pleasantly surprised at how accommodating they were with various dietary restrictions everywhere I went.

4. Auberge Saint Antoine - Relais and Chateaux

The first Virtuoso property I stayed at was Auberge Saint Antoine, situated right in the heart of the old town. Encompassing a trio of historical buildings, the Auberge was built on a major archeological site and displays a collection of artifacts offering guests a glimpse into the rich history of the oldest colonial city in North America, today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This hotel is quaint and homey, and I enjoyed two of my best meals at their restaurants on property. I had a Luxe Terrace Room which, through the snow, provided amazing views of the city including a front row view of the Chateau Frontenac. This hotel was the perfect location to explore Du-Petit Champlain, one of the most picturesque streets in North America.

5. Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac (below)

I had the opportunity to stay at this Virtuoso property which happens to be on many people’s bucket lists - the Chateau Frontenac. This has been a famous railway hotel in Quebec City since the late 1800s, but is now owned and operated by Fairmont. This was truly an experience since this is one of the most well-known landmarks of the city. It towers over any other building in the old town, has a great view of the St. Lawrence river, and is also situated in a great location for exploring the charming streets of Old Quebec, which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This property is perfect for anyone wanting to experience one of the world’s leading hotels.
