See the sights by day, sleep in a hotel at night. With Rocky Mountaineer, you get the best of both worlds: maximum views and maximum comfort. On board hosts captivate guests with stories of the region as you journey through two days of extraordinary landscapes between Moab and Denver. Vast canyons, inspiring deserts, natural archways and enchanting hoodoos are just a start.

2. The Journey
Shanna started her journey in Salt Lake City at the Little America Hotel. Her specific journey included two days onboard Rocky Mountaineer, discovering the spectacular sights of the Southwest, as well as overnight stays in Salt Lake City, Moab, Glenwood Springs, and Denver.
All of Rocky Moutaineer’s packages are available in both directions: you can start or end your journey in Denver, Moab, Las Vegas, or Salt Lake City. Carefully curated packages also allow guests to explore more in each destination.

 3. Moab
After a scenic transfer from Salt Lake City, Shanna’s next stop was Moab. Rocky Mountaineer guests will typically stay at either the Hyatt Place Moab Hotel or Hoodoo Moab, Curio Collection by Hilton, which are both centrally located in Moab. Moab is a quaint city filled with local shops and restaurants that serves as a gateway to massive red rock formations and mesas. She highly recommends giving yourself extra time in Moab to explore two of Utah’s Mighty 5 National Parks.

4. Arches National Park
In just 12 hours, Shanna marked off two National Parks in the Southwest. First up was Arches National Park which lies just north of Moab. With over 2,000 natural stone arches and hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive rock fins and giant balanced rocks, she was immersed in a red rock wonderland. Famous landmarks included Balanced Rock, Delicate Arch, Double Arch, and Windows Section.

5. Canyonlands National Park (above and below)
Shortly after her half day tour to Arches, she jumped in a 4x4 and headed out to Canyonlands National Park, just 35 minutes from Moab. From vast canyons to the switchbacks of the Shafer Trail, the grand views of the Island in the Sky District of the park are often compared to the Grand Canyon. Sights of interest included ancient petroglyphs, dinosaur bones, Musselman Arch, Gooseneck Overlook, and three bighorn sheep including a baby. This is your sign (if you need one) to go explore the Southwest!
