What's New 2022?

You may be surprised to hear that all the way through the Covid era of the last 2 years, almost all luxury hotel brands either confirmed their plans for expansion or even accelerated them. As a result of this foresight over 100 luxury and ultraluxe hotels and resorts will open in 2022.

Here are just 5 we are particularly excited about.

1. Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort (above)

Located on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawai‘i, the iconic Kona Village Resort will once again open its doors and welcome back ‘ohana (family) to the historic and culturally rich destination in 2023. Spanning 81 acres of stunning geologic landscape and richness, Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort will draw inspiration from the history of the site, local culture and natural elements.

Less than 10 miles north of the Kona International Airport, the resort will debut 150 unique, standalone guest hales with locally-inspired décor and a privileged sense of seclusion. An array of distinct dining venues, including the original resort’s beloved Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar, will offer elevated yet relaxed experiences.

2. The Madrid EDITION (above and below)
In distinctive EDITION fashion, the highly anticipated Madrid EDITION delivers a curated experience when it comes to showcasing the local culture, cuisine, and design. With its 200 guestrooms and suites, the hotel boasts five unique venues for dining and drinks, including a signature restaurant, Sky Bar, and rooftop terrace. Plus, a state-of-the-art fitness center, spa, and tranquil outdoor pool, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the city’s thousands of years of history.

3. Raffles London at the OWO (below)

Set to open in late 2022, Raffles London at The OWO and The OWO Residences by Raffles will be the brand’s first opening in London. Raffles will operate a 120 room and suites flagship hotel at the iconic Old War Office building along with a collection of 85 exceptional branded residences at this landmark destination on Whitehall. The Grade II listed Old War Office building, originally completed in 1906, is steeped in history. This architectural masterpiece has witnessed world-shaping events whilst influential political and military leaders including Winston Churchill, H H Asquith, David Lloyd George and John Profumo held office. Its transformative journey will see the building reborn as The OWO, a new destination which will include 11 distinct restaurants and bars, an immersive spa with a 20-metre indoor pool and separate vitality pool, and a 620 seated-capacity grand ballroom. This will be Raffles flagship property in Europe!

4. 100 Princes Street, Edinburgh (above and below)

In late summer 2022, Red Carnation Hotel Collection will open a hotel in Scotland for the first time, 100 Princes Street. The original building and its iconic features will be respectfully renovated, transforming it into an exclusive retreat on Edinburgh’s most famous street. With uninterrupted views of Edinburgh Castle, 100 Princes Street will replicate the boutique atmosphere of its sister property, Hotel 41, one of the most-loved hotels in London.

Led by the design team behind the iconic Ashford Castle in Ireland, this restoration will look to protect and retain the original heart and soul of 100 Princes Street. Inspired by Alexander McQueen, the design team sought to create a sense of place, working with local artisans to create bespoke pieces. Red Carnation often feature in our ezines and represent an incredible focus on making you feel like family at any of their properties.

5. 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, Kauai (above and below)

We return to the Hawaiian Islands again to what will immediately become Kauai's best resort. Designed to be one of the world’s premier wellness resorts, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay (opening September 2022) harnesses the healing power of Hawaii’s Garden Isle in everything from its spa treatments to its sustainably sourced farm-to-table cuisine. The 252 rooms and suites bring the outside in with native greenery, organic cotton linens, and views of Kauai’s lush landscape. And onsite nutritionists, integrative doctors, and meditation guides help you develop a deeper understanding of mind-body balance and your connection to nature.
