Another week and another blog featuring a member of the team's travels!
Kendall, our Director of Luxury Sales, was back in one of her absolute most beloved destinations a few weeks back - Maui.
After a huge surge of travel to the islands during and early post-Covid, Maui in particular was hit especially hard by wildfires almost exactly one year ago, which stopped tourism in its tracks. Now almost fully recovered, Maui is ready for you again, and fully deserves consideration as the true idyllic escape that it is.
Here's the Top 5 from Kendall's recent visit.
Maui Strong
While Maui is, and will continue to be, a popular tourist destination, it’s vital to be a respectful traveler. It's important to honor the island’s rich culture and support its recovery, especially in the wake of last years Lahaina wildfire. We encourage our clients to:
1. Engage with the local community by choosing to shop at locally-owned stores and dining at restaurants that source their ingredients from island farms. Being mindful of cultural practices and natural environments by following guidelines and respecting sacred sites and wildlife.
2. Volunteer time or making donations to local relief organizations can also make a significant impact. Supporting businesses affected by the disaster helps improve the local economy and fosters a sense of solidarity and recovery. By traveling thoughtfully and supporting Maui's resilient spirit, we contribute positively to the island’s ongoing healing by reciprocating its sense of “Aloha.”
A favorite of our clients, and us at J5Travel, this is where luxury meets the natural beauty of Hawaii. I was able to spend 3 days here, and was captivated by the resort's stunning ocean views and contemporary design. The villa options, including oceanfront and connecting configurations, offer a truly personalized experience, perfect for families or groups seeking more space and privacy. The resort offers the opportunity to lounge by three cascading infinity pools and experience serene treatments at the Awili Spa and Salon. All restaurants use fresh, local flavors and the direct beach access make for effortless days of sun and sea. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure, the Andaz Maui is the perfect blend of both.
The J5 team experienced the Fairmont Kea Lani on our team trip back in October, 2022, but the resort has since implemented extensive renovations that were great to see come to fruition. The newly updated accommodations include spacious ocean-view suites and expansive villas, perfect for families or groups wanting a blend of comfort and style. The resort's villas, with their contemporary design and private lanais, offer an exclusive retreat with enhanced amenities. I was particularly impressed by the new dining options, including innovative restaurants that showcase both local flavors and international cuisine. The large pool area and water slides make this property especially great for families.
It is no secret that the Four Seasons level of service is a cut above. We often joke that “no” is not in their vocabulary. Here, every detail is crafted to provide an exceptional experience. The resort gained popularity after Season One of White Lotus was filmed there in 2020, and it is renowned for its high level of service. The team is dedicated to anticipating and fulfilling every need, ensuring a seamless and personalized stay. I was particularly impressed by the carefully planned activities that cater to a range of interests, from pop up events at the restaurants to summer teen and wellness programs. There are many different room and suite options, including a club level which provides additional amenities such as a lounge open all day to grab a quick snack or drink, cocktail hours, and preferred room location within the resort.
Maui's Upcountry
Something I recommend to everyone who visits Maui is taking a day to explore the upcountry area. A visit to Maui Wine offers a chance to try exceptional wines crafted from the island’s rich volcanic soil. Just a short walk away, Ulupalakua Ranch Store invites you to experience its scenic beauty and rich history, with opportunities to explore the working ranch, sample its renowned beef, and even enjoy lunch at the store. You should never miss the chance to visit the Surfing Goat Dairy Farm, where you can tour the facilities and taste a variety of cheeses made from milk of the farm’s own goats. The upcountry’s picturesque scenery and diverse attractions make it a must-visit destination, offering a refreshing contrast to Maui’s coastal region.
