A few weeks ago, you heard about the top Virtuoso properties in Amsterdam and Ireland. This week is all about some of the top experiences in Ireland. Kendall had the opportunity to participate in multiple incredible activities and tours such as we are able to arrange for our clients, so to share, here’s Kendall with her Top Five Irish Experiences.
Top 5 Irish Experiences
1. EPIC: The Irish Emigration Museum
As someone who is really not a big fan of museums, EPIC really made me reconsider that stance. This interactive museum is full of history and information on the emigration of people from Ireland - their reasoning, worldly events that altered their decision, and important people who have emigrated throughout history. It is also a must see for anyone who has roots in Ireland since a big part of what they do is tracking family names throughout history, and potentially shows where your family moved over the years on a map. Independent, group, and private tours are offered here and I would highly recommend it for anyone spending time in Dublin.
2. Irish National Stud
Located just about an hour outside of Dublin is the Irish National Stud and Gardens. This is where some of the world’s most famous race horses reside and truly live a life of luxury. We had the chance to meet some of the stallions and tour the beautiful Japanese gardens (below) they have on the grounds. This has really become a great resource for locals and serves as an interactive, informative, and fun experience for visitors.
3. Irish Wolfhounds (above and below)
I am almost embarrassed to admit that this was the highlight of my trip. I mentioned Ashford Castle and all of the activities they offer in my last Ezine, but the daily walk with the dogs has to be my favorite. Along with two incredible Irish Wolfhounds, there is a German Shepherd and a Black Lab who join in on the fun. Every morning, their handler hosts a walk through the woods with the dogs, available to guests only. I had the amazing opportunity to be the only guest on the walk one morning and it is something I will never forget. It’s such a unique experience to have - the pictures say it all!
4. Falconry
An activity offered at many of the castle hotels in Ireland, I participated in the falconry at Ashford Castle and it was quite the experience. Along with learning about the birds and the facilities they have, you also enjoy a lovely walking tour of the grounds. Although it may seem intimidating, it was actually pretty calming and the birds are so gentle. This is a must do for anyone who has the opportunity!
5. Jameson Distillery
I started and ended my trip in Dublin which meant that a trip to the Jameson Distillery to finish off my trip was a must. I was extremely impressed with the experience. Our group was split into makers, shakers, and mixers. I was a shaker, which meant that I got to participate in a cocktail making class where we learned how to make 3 different whiskey cocktails. There are many different tour options that appeal to anyone’s preferences. Personally, I preferred this to the Guinness Storehouse and would highly recommend anyone ending a great trip to Ireland with an experience here!
