With everyone's interpretation of Wellness Travel being different there is no one size fits all when it comes to creating a wellness itinerary. There are many factors to consider: where you can to be, your wellness goals, desired experiences, and even the vibe of the place you are wanting to explore. However, several wellness retreats are highly regarded for their comprehensive programs, luxurious accommodations, and beautiful natural settings. All of these add to the overall wellness experience. So, this month, I've wanted to give you a taste of what a wellness travel itinerary could look like if you're curious to dive deeper into this type of trip.
One thing to remember when it comes to Wellness Travel - it does not have to mean wheatgrass shots and fasting for 3 days. It can mean the food is fresh and healthy but not restrictive (there's usually wine!), the accommodations are calming and peaceful (many include soaking tubs) not loud or full of spring-break partiers. There is so much more to this form of travel and we hope you see that in our example itinerary below.
What does a Wellness Travel itinerary look like?
Day 1 - Arrive + Relaxation
Check into your wellness retreat and be greeted with a welcoming feeling of calm. Enjoy a late lunch or snack before taking the afternoon to explore the grounds - stretching your legs after a day of travel will feel good. Grab a well crafted dinner on property for a farm to table dining experience that will entertain your taste buds and leave you feeling well nourished. Then soak in a beautiful sunset from a trail on property or from your patio suite to set the tone for wellness adventure.
Day 2 - Mindful Movement & Nutrition
Start your day with a sunrise yoga session or mediation, however you wish to enjoy your mornings. Next, indulge in a nutritious breakfast featuring local, organic ingredients to fuel your body for the day ahead. For the day's activities choose to participate in a wellness workshop or cooking class to learn about the local culture and how to use different local ingredients to create nutritious dishes. Wind down the day with a relaxing massage or holistic spa treatment to soothe tired muscles and promote relaxation.
Day 3 - Outdoor Adventure + Reflection
Head out on an outdoor adventure such as a sunrise hike, kayaking, or bike ride to embrace the surrounding landscape and take in all the fresh air. Stop to enjoy a picnic lunch along the way, continuing to take in the nature around you. Have an afternoon of relaxation by the pool for some self-reflection, journaling, or catching up on a good book. Then spend the evening in a mindfulness class learning some stress management techniques or enjoy a hands on dinner with the chef showcasing local ingredients and how to prepare everything in a sustainable way.
Day 4 - Cultural Immersion
Spend the day fully engaging in the local culture through a guided exploration of nearby landmarks, temples, or cultural sites. Delight in the flavors of authentic regional cuisine with a wholesome, nourishing meal at a local restaurant or market. Unwind and embrace tranquility with a serene sunset yoga session, meditation, or a leisurely catamaran cruise, allowing yourself to reflect on the day's experiences.
Day 5 - Departure + Rejuvenation
In the morning join in on a farewell group activity or wellness session to conclude your retreat experience on a positive note. Enjoy a final meal with fellow retreat participants, sharing stories and reflections from your time together or enjoy brunch solo taking in your last morning in the beautiful setting.
Check out of your accommodations with a sense of renewal and gratitude for the transformative experiences of your wellness journey.
