This week, I’m wrapping up my mini Africa-focused series by highlighting three more countries that truly deserve your attention—especially if you’re seeking to open your eyes and hearts to new experiences.

  1. Namibia

Top Destinations:

  • Skeleton Coast
  • Damaraland
  • Etosha National Park
  • Windhoek
  • Fish River Canyon

Known For:

  • Giant red sand dunes
  • Himba tribe
  • sparse population
  • Skeleton Coast shipwrecks

Best Combined with Botswana for a "desert & delta" experience or South Africa for a "city & wilderness" experience.

When To Go: May thru October is the ideal time to visit Namibia. Avoid January and February due to flood potential.

Namibia offers visitors:

  • Indigenous cultures
  • Self-drive experiences
  • Sand and seclusion "off the grid" travelStargazing in some of the world's darkest skies

2. Rwanda

Top Destinations:

  • Volcanoes National Park
  • Akagera National Park
  • Nyungwe National Park
  • Lake Kivu
  • Kigali

Known For:

  • The Land of a 1,000 Hills
  • Stunning scenery
  • Warm, friendly people
  • One third of the world's gorilla population

Best combined with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

When to Go:

Year round! with December to February along with June to September the best times to visit, especially for gorilla trekking.

Rwanda offers visitors:

  • Mountain gorillas and chimpanzees
  • Incredible scenery
  • Diverse culture and wildlife
  • Hiking Mount Kigali

3. Mozambique

Top Destinations:

  • Bazaruto Archipelago
  • Maputo
  • Tofo
  • Ilha de Mozambique
  • Gorongosa National Park

Known for:

  • Amazing beaches
  • Wildlife
  • Snorkeling and diving

Best combined with South Africa, Tanzania or Zimbabwe.

When to Go:

March to May is good with moderate temperatures and May festivals. June to November is the best during the hot, dry season.

Mozambique offers visitors:

  • Ocean safaris and dolphin swimming
  • Colonial relics on Mozambique Island
  • Horseback riding on deserted beaches
