2. Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa (below)
Moorea is one of the most scenically striking islands in French Polynesia, probably even more so than Bora Bora and this is also in our opinion the best Hilton resort in the world. It's located on the heart-shaped island of Moorea and set against a beautiful mountain backdrop which melts into a crystal clear lagoon. The white sandy beach is perfect for a spot of sunbathing or sports with family and friends, and the scenic lagoon is teeming with friendly tropical fish and a gentle water playground for guests.

3. Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora (above and below)
Running the St Regis a close second we think, The Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora is a stunning 5-star hotel with an isolated location that makes it ideal for romance and extra privacy. Each overwater bungalow is huge and filled with special amenities. Most have incredible views of Bora Bora and its lagoon. The remote location on its own private islet means that reaching shops and restaurants on Bora Bora is difficult, but there is plenty to do on the property, including an excellent restaurant and a top-class spa.

5. The Brando (above and below)

So just a little fib in this weeks title. Whilst there are many other excellent French Polynesia resorts with Overwater Bungalows, perhaps the best resort of all, is beach villas only.
