The Most Sensational Over the Water Bungalow Resorts in French Polynesia

October 24, 2019

I am currently sailing on the Celebrity Summit where our host agency is holding their annual conference. A genius idea if ever there was one. For any corporate readers out there, suggest this to the powers that be. We can find you a sailing with a few consecutive sea days, you hold your conference/learning or whatever needs to get done, and then you enjoy the rest of the cruise. You can keep it to business only, or invite loved ones along, which is a definite win/win.
This particular conference has been special for J5Travel as yesterday our team was recognized as the Top Producers for 2019 within our entire network of over 300 travel advisors. This year is proving that our formula of focusing on and tuning in to the fine details of every single clients itinerary is making the difference for them and for us. So huge thank-yous go out to our team of Helen, Kanise, Tori and Sarah, and our host agency who support us every single day, Gifted Travel Network. Finally a massive thank-you to our clients, who are also supporting us most importantly, with their trust.

Top 5 - Over the Water Bungalows in French Polynesia

1. St Regis Bora Bora (above and below)
A sensational hotel, in a spectacular location, the St. Regis Bora Bora features Overwater Bungalows and Villas starting at 1,550 square feet, all entirely air-conditioned, and with large glass floor panels to reveal the translucent lagoon beneath, as well as spacious outdoor living. Suspended overwater is the Lagoon Restaurant, with views of Mount Otemanu, while Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s menu offers the finest dining experience. The St. Regis Butler service offers packing and unpacking, coffee and tea delivery with wake-up calls, champagne sabering and more.

2. Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa (below)
Moorea is one of the most scenically striking islands in French Polynesia, probably even more so than Bora Bora and this is also in our opinion the best Hilton resort in the world. It's located on the heart-shaped island of Moorea and set against a beautiful mountain backdrop which melts into a crystal clear lagoon. The white sandy beach is perfect for a spot of sunbathing or sports with family and friends, and the scenic lagoon is teeming with friendly tropical fish and a gentle water playground for guests.

3. Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora (above and below)
Running the St Regis a close second we think, The Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora is a stunning 5-star hotel with an isolated location that makes it ideal for romance and extra privacy. Each overwater bungalow is huge and filled with special amenities. Most have incredible views of Bora Bora and its lagoon. The remote location on its own private islet means that reaching shops and restaurants on Bora Bora is difficult, but there is plenty to do on the property, including an excellent restaurant and a top-class spa.

4. Le Taha'a Island Resort & Spa (below)
Blessed by the trademark vanilla scents of the Island of Taha'a, this Relais & Châteaux property is simply sublime. Offshore from the island, on the tiny Motu Tautau, the resort maintains an exclusive, calm, laid-back ambience with just 45 overwater suites, 10 one-bedroom Beach Villas and 2 two-bedroom Royal Beach Villas. It's a place where you may be as lazy or as active as you wish. Spend every day at Tavai Spa or go Jet Skiing, paddling, snorkeling or diving.

5. The Brando (above and below)

So just a little fib in this weeks title. Whilst there are many other excellent French Polynesia resorts with Overwater Bungalows, perhaps the best resort of all, is beach villas only. The Brando, which is the former Polynesian home of Marlon Brando is set on its own private island of Tetiaroa and is the only true all-inclusive luxury resort found within the islands of Tahiti. A world leader in hospitality sustainability, the eco-friendly Brando fuses carefree ultra-luxury with cutting-edge technology in just 36 welcoming villas on private beaches with plunge pools. Set within a biodiverse natural sanctuary, the resort offers naturalist-led tours and professional-led photo safaris. You can learn Polynesian dance or how to play the ukulele, or you can take part in plentiful watersports. The spa features holistic treatments, inspired by ancient traditions.
