I spent a full two weeks on my most recent trip to England. As a native, there are obvious reasons why the UK is dear to my heart, and I will always recommend it to a wide variety of travelers. This is because there are so many different ways to enjoy the country, especially London.

1. Trains
The London Underground can get you anywhere in London. Don't believe me? There are 272 stops and that doesn't include the overhead main line connections that spread our from the city in every direction.
Top Tips:
1. Try to avoid morning and early evening rush hours, especially if carrying luggage.
2. Tap and go with your credit card through every barrier on entry and leaving your destination station. No need for tickets at all and the cost per ride gets adjusted down the more you ride!

2. Sudeley Castle
During a quick side trip down to my old stomping ground in the Cotswolds, we visited Sudeley Castle which boasts over 1000 years of history with very strong royal connections. It's the only private castle in England with a queen buried on its grounds – Katherine Parr, Henry VIII's last wife. Once home to Richard III and visited by Elizabeth I, it saw Civil War action and later fell into ruin before being restored in the 19th century. With ten gardens and such a rich history it offers a captivating glimpse into England's past, and it's a delightful way to spend an hour or two.

3. The Falstaff
I decamped for 3 nights to the "Garden of England"...Kent. This was a chance for me to explore gently, and also catch up with my workload.
The Falstaff Hotel in Canterbury exudes a unique charm, blending its 15th-century coaching inn heritage with a stylish, modern touch. Think exposed oak beams and inglenook fireplaces whispering tales of travelers past. Its individual, characterful rooms offer a cozy and inviting atmosphere, while its central location makes exploring the historic heart of Canterbury effortlessly delightful. It's a place where old-world charm meets contemporary comfort, and I loved my stay.

4. Canterbury Cathedral
For the history buffs...
Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, Canterbury Cathedral is England's mother church. Rebuilt after Norman invasion and a major fire, it showcases Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Famously, Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered within its walls in 1170, making it a key pilgrimage site. Despite Henry VIII's dissolution and WWII bombing, it remains a vibrant center of worship and history. The town center charms with its medieval streets winding past timber-framed buildings, while quaint shops, inviting pubs, and the gentle flow of the River Stour create a picturesque and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for leisurely exploration without the crowds.

5. Park Hyatt London River Thames
I looped back to London for my last 2 nights and struck gold. Still only open for just under 6 months Hyatt's flagship luxury brand has excelled itself. The photo at the start of this article...taken from my bedroom here.
It's location is on the South Bank of the Thames, so not a prime central location but with transport in London so easy, and the fact you need to travel all over anyway, this place is currently offering absolutely top level luxury service, amenities and accommodation at very good value compared with other top 5-star establishments.
