A Riviera Refresher: Highlights from ILTM Cannes 2025

By: J5Travel

· Travel,Luxury,Europe

Shanna made her debut at ILTM Cannes, as the city once again transformed the French Riviera into the epicenter of luxury travel. Though the J5 team has attended for many years, this was Shanna’s very first time, very fitting for our team’s France specialist. Over four days, the industry’s most influential hoteliers, operators, and designers gathered to share what’s new and next in global luxury travel. Between one-on-one meetings and unforgettable networking moments, Shanna also had the chance to explore Cannes, nearby Riviera towns, and Provence. She is delighted to share a few standout discoveries and experiences that may help to inspire your 2026 travels.

Alila Resorts of California

Meeting with Alila reaffirmed why their California portfolio is one of the most compelling in the U.S. luxury landscape. With three unique properties, Alila Ventana Big Sur (photo above) is an adults-only, all-inclusive wellness retreat among the redwoods. Alila Napa Valley is a boutique property with vineyard elegance just steps from St. Helena. Finally, Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas is a modern coastal sanctuary overlooking the Pacific. A split stay is truly the ideal way to experience the state’s diverse beauty. Each property delivers a distinct vibe, from rugged and restorative to wine-country chic and laid-back surf style. Itineraries can be seamlessly arranged to include private drivers, curated tastings, and unforgettable nature experiences.

Azumi Setoda, Japan

Azumi Setoda was one of the most inspiring concepts at ILTM, an artfully restored ryokan on the tranquil island of Ikuchijima in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea. Designed for slow living and deep cultural immersion, it offers serene suites, a traditional bathhouse, and warm island hospitality. Easily reached via ferry from Onomichi or by car along the famous Shimanami Kaido, it pairs beautifully with cycling adventures, nearby artisan visits, and day trips to neighboring islands. It is an exceptional choice for travelers seeking authenticity, design, and meaningful connection to place.

The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia

The Datai Langkawi stood out as a true sanctuary, tucked within an ancient rainforest on a private stretch of pristine beach. The resort’s philosophy centers on nature, wellness, and holistic rejuvenation, with extraordinary spa rituals, a resident naturalist team, and encounters with monkeys, hornbills, and other local wildlife. Golfers will love the nearby award-winning Els Club Teluk Datai, carved seamlessly into the landscape. For an exceptional Southeast Asia itinerary, The Datai pairs beautifully with a journey aboard the iconic Eastern and Oriental Belmond train through Malaysia and Singapore.

Nice & Antibes

After the final meetings and celebrations wrapped, Shanna extended her stay at the iconic Hotel Martinez, a favorite Hyatt gem right on La Croisette in Cannes. She took the SNCF train, easy to book through the app with departures running all day, to explore Nice and Antibes. Her day began with a croissant and cappuccino before wandering the cobblestone streets of Old Town Nice, strolling the famed Promenade des Anglais, and relaxing on the pebbled beaches between market visits filled with flowers, antiques, and fresh produce. Antibes gifted a cotton candy sunset along its breathtaking waterfront path, where cacti, succulents, sculptures, and sweeping sea views lead past the Picasso Museum and a 17th century fortress.

Provence

To round out the trip, Shanna ventured into Provence on a private day experience arranged with one of our trusted French partners. Just 1.5 hours from Cannes, she enjoyed three exclusive tastings in Côtes de Provence. She sampled 16 wines, including seven prestigious Cru Classé varietals, paired with olive tapenade, a regional cheese platter, and traditional Navettes. One of the most memorable stops was at Château Font du Broc (above), where the underground cellar is a spectacular, cathedral-like aging room crafted from ancient stones and unlike anything else in the region. With a dedicated private driver, the experience was seamless, scenic, and an excellent reminder of how effortlessly Provence pairs with a Riviera stay, even in the off season.
