Kanise here with this week's article covering my recent trip on the Norwegian Prima. I had the pleasure of embarking on a 4-day sailing out of New York with a stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was a great opportunity to see all the Norwegian offers, not just on this new ship, but also as a brand. Sadly, my phone broke on the very first day of sailing so I don't have many pictures, but i will share what I have. Overall, I found the Prima to be a very grand and beautiful ship with tons of innovative amenities.
Here for your perusal are my Top 5 things to enjoy on the Prima.
1. Prima Speedway (above and below)
Norwegian Cruises has the only racetracks at sea, and I have to say it's quite incredible. There is a 3-story track at the top of the ship with about 15 cars for both single and double riders. This is not your kiddie go cart ride, the cars are fast! It is really quite exhilarating to race around the track while seeing the open sea on both sides. And admittedly a little scary, but they take precautions to ensure everyone is safe. The go karts have a fee of $15 per person and lasts about 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend racing at least once if you're on one of Norwegian's ships with a racetrack.
2. Dining Venues (above and below)
The dining options on the Prima are plentiful and delicious. There are eight specialty restaurants and six complimentary restaurants. The specialty restaurants include various cuisine options such as sushi, steak, French cuisine, Mexican cuisine and even Japanese cuisine served hibachi style. If you don't want to eat in a specialty restaurant the complimentary dining is just as eclectic. Their food hall, Indulge food hall (above), has a selection of international cuisine that includes Japanese ramen, Indian masalas, Southern barbecue and Mediterranean kabobs. There are also the standard main dining rooms and buffet options that stay open late. My favorite meal while onboard was the sushi and chocolate mousse at Food Republic.
3. Staterooms (above and below)
The rooms on the Prima are both spacious and beautifully designed. At approximately 221 sq ft, the balcony rooms are amongst some of the largest in the cruise industry. The beds are comfortable and the amenities are well thought out. From the TV you can see where the ship is at all times as well as the daily activities. They also include a number of newly released and classic movies that are perfect for those long days at sea. I really appreciated the space in the bathroom and my personal favorite was the strong water pressure and the handheld shower head with 4 settings. I was able to preview some of the other rooms and I would highly recommend staying a suite if you have the chance. The suites features separate living and sleeping areas with a balcony that can be accessed from either.
4. Entertainment (above and below)
The entertainment onboard was top notch as was the theater itself (above). There were a variety of options to choose from each night. The Donna Summer Musical and Noise Boys were vibrant musical performances that kept you engaged and toe tapping to the beat. There were also comedy shows each night in the Improv club (below) with nationally known comedians. But the best entertainment had to be the live showing of the Price is Right. It's one of my favorite game shows and Norwegian did not disappoint with the accuracy. They had all the best games like plinko, cliff hangers and shopping spree. They even had a full-size wheel to spin for the showcase round.
5. Galaxy Pavilion (below)
I think my favorite part had to be the Galaxy Pavilion. It is a huge virtual reality arcade for the kids and kids at heart. Once you put on the virtual headsets, you are no longer on the Prima, you are transported to Jurassic Park, exotic lands and fantasy gardens. There is even a game where you can drive Santa's sleigh. At any time of the day this is the place to be. They also have an escape room. I sadly couldn't experience it because it was always booked, so my advice to you is book the escape room as early as possible. If you're a golfer, there is also a Top Golf swing suite that is exclusive to Norwegian. This section of the ship certainly lives up to its name as a "high tech wonderland for the whole family".
