5 New Resorts to Dream About (and book!)

By: J5Travel

January 20, 2023

Once in a while I lay out a brief preview of upcoming luxury hotel openings all around the world and it seems like a good idea to go with that theme early this year. It's a fact that new properties can take a full year to get up and running and receive enough recognition that they sell to the same capacity and comparable rates to already established properties. Perhaps don't book them for the few weeks after opening, but give it a couple of months and there is usually a sweet spot where any wrinkles have been ironed out, but rates are fair value when going apples to apples with similar properties and availability will still be good.

Here are 5 beautiful looking hotels to consider for 2023 and 2024.

Top 5 - 2023 Openings

1. St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya, Mexico (above and below)
Projected to open next month, the St. Regis Kanai, Riviera Maya will be a mystical paradise honoring the ancient Maya civilization. Situated atop red mangrove trees, this architectural masterpiece is inspired by the unique shapes and colors of the surrounding landscape.
The 124 rooms and suites’ design elements draw inspiration from the ancient Mayan culture and the Astor House legacy: from bedside ceramic light pendants and intricate walnut wood-carved headboards to bronze-finished mirrors, these timeless accommodations combine mystique and glamour.
The resort will have nine restaurants and bars, a 20,000 sq. ft. SPA and Wellness Center with 8 treatment rooms: several pools, including and adults-only pool, beach and pool day cabanas, a Children’s Club, and sophisticated function space, counting the Great Lawn – a unique open-air beachfront venue, perfect for intimate events and large picture-perfect celebrations. The resort offers over two miles of pristine beach, and the turquoise sea is tranquil and swimmable, due to the Mesoamerican reef serving as natural barrier.
All the guestrooms and suites have a spacious terrace, and several categories offer a private plunge pool. All rooms have the signature St. Regis Butler Service, ocean views and are at walking distance from the beach.

2. Raffles London at the OWO (above and below)
I believe I mentioned this property in mid 2022 and yes it's been delayed somewhat and is now due to open in late Spring 2023, but it will really be worth the wait.
Raffles will operate a 120 room and suites flagship hotel at the iconic Old War Office building along with a collection of 85 exceptional branded residences at this landmark destination on Whitehall. The Grade II* listed Old War Office building, originally completed in 1906, is steeped in history. This architectural masterpiece has witnessed world-shaping events whilst influential political and military leaders including Winston Churchill, H H Asquith, David Lloyd George and John Profumo held office. Its transformative journey will see the building reborn as The OWO, a new destination which will include 11 distinct restaurants and bars, an immersive spa with a 20-metre indoor pool and separate vitality pool, and a 600 seated-capacity grand ballroom. The OWO Residences by Raffles will be the first in the UK and Europe, and will ensure the service hallmarks of Raffles - gracious and intuitive staff, personalised attention and a timeless ambience – will be delivered seamlessly to residential owners. Located opposite Horse Guards on Whitehall, the property is a stone’s throw from St James’s Park and the Mall.

3. Violino D'Oro, Venice, Italy (below)
The anticipation is high for Violino D’Oro – A Virtuoso Preview Property. Opening in May 2023, Venice’s newest 5-star boutique hotel will boast 32 residential-style rooms and suites, plus idyllic views of the canal thanks to its postcard perfect location, a mere 2-minute walk from San Marco (the city’s oldest and most famous quarter), home to St. Mark’s Basilica, the Bridge of Sighs, and Doge’s Palace.
No photos to share yet, but we have the inside scoop that it will be special.

4. Susurros del Corazon, Punta di Mita, Mexico (above)
If you haven't experienced an Auberge Resorts property yet and are fans of Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons or perhaps Belmond, then I'd urge you to give them a go. They don't splash out with the grand marketing budget of those I have mentioned, so they are a little under the radar, but their 25 properties worldwide are the epitome of laid back style with seamless, perfect service.

Nestled between jungled cliffs on a pristine stretch of beach, Susurros del Corazón, which opened quietly in November, is a luxuriously relaxed surf retreat celebrating natural beauty and playful spirit. With a beach unlike any other in Punta De Mita, lingering days call to the ocean to explore on a surf safari, watch the Humpback whales or relax to the echoes of rolling waves.
Embodying relaxed seaside living, each of the accommodations offer indoor-outdoor spaces with private terraces and large nature framing windows. Contemporary design celebrates natural materials and Mexico’s rich craft culture with unique furnishings and textiles.
Offering several indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the property, events at Susurros del Corazón live in textured harmony with the environment. Tranquil and intimate spaces cater to everything from weddings and milestone celebrations to corporate programs and retreats.

5. The Peninsula, Istanbul, Turkey (above and below)

As you can see from the artist renderings waterfront on the Bosphorus is about to get a major upgrade. The Peninsula Istanbul will soon welcome its first guests. The hotel, located in Istanbul’s historic Karaköy district, will anchor a new waterfront revitalization project called Galataport, to include a promenade, museums and art galleries, restaurants, boutiques, and a cruise ship port. The heritage property is also within walking distance to many of Istanbul’s most dazzling historic landmarks, such as Galata Tower, Galata Bridge and the famous Sultanahmet District.
Featuring classical-inspired architecture, The Peninsula Istanbul will offer lush landscaped gardens and swimming pools, one of which overlooks the Bosphorus. Many of its 177 opulent guestrooms and suites also have sweeping water views. Guests can savour sublime local and international cuisine at a choice of sophisticated restaurants, before indulging in the ancient Turkish tradition of hammam steam baths at the decadent The Peninsula Spa.
